Jack Tung
Jack Tung has worked with Carla Cicero (Collections Curator of Birds) since his first semester at Berkeley in the fall 2005 as a work study student. He spent his time assisting in the study of the phylogeny of Steller’s Jays in the MVZ Molecular Evolution Lab. He runs DNA extractions, PCRs, and DNA sequencing on a regular basis. He’s also been doing microsatellite studies. Even though he is a bioengineering major and his focus is more in molecular biology and disease rather than natural history, the MVZ has certainly given him a different perspective and valuable experience.
“Working in the MVZ is a great opportunity to gain lab experience and be exposed to some of the most forefront research in the field. The people in the MVZ are so warm and are willing to help anyone learn!”
